Teurlings girls soccer has been one of the more consistent teams in Acadiana, but after graduating ten seniors it is a rebuild of sorts for the rebels. Senior Goalie Isabella Hutchinson is trying to guide the Rebels through a slow start.”She’s been big for us this season, she’s put under a lot of pressure because of our youth and lack of experience,” said head coach David Lapeyrouse.Teurlings (2-7-1) has come out of the gates slow.”Our record isn’t the best this year, but it’s one of those things where we had a lot of success in the last two years,” said Lapeyrouse. “So, there’s nothing wrong with getting a taste of humble pie.”But for Hutchinson, also known as Hutch, that is easier said then done.”[It’s] really tough, but also I was mentally preparing for it,” she said. Her toughest preparation was stepping into the role as the team’s starting goalie.”I played under Lauren Starwood for two years, which was big shoes to fill,” she said.Hutch gives a lot credit to Starwood, the former Rebel was a three-time, first-team all-district player, who is currently making a name for herself as a Ragin’ Cajun. Starwood visited the team this year, inspiring Hutch.”Honestly, [it’s] probably the best I’ve felt. A bunch of them came to the Barb game. She had a glowing praise after that game. It was the best I felt all year,” she said.Even though this slow start isn’t how Hutch envisioned her final year, she said she remains hopeful.————————————————————Stay in touch with us anytime, anywhere. To reach the newsroom or report a typo/correction, click HERE.
